How do I get started with the CV Builder?
Getting started takes less than 2 minutes. Head to builder.html, choose one of the 15 professionally designed templates, and begin filling in your details. The live preview updates in real-time as you type — no saving required to see changes. You can switch templates at any point without losing your content. When you're satisfied, use the Export button to download your resume.
Can I change my template after I've started filling in content?
Yes, absolutely. You can switch between any of the 15 templates at any time during your editing session — all your content (name, experience, education, skills, summary) is preserved across template changes. The layout adapts automatically to the new template. Simply click the template icon in the builder toolbar to open the template picker.
How does the AI writing assistant work?
CVfive's AI writing assistant helps you write compelling, ATS-optimized resume content in seconds. It can generate professional experience bullet points based on your role and responsibilities, and craft a strong professional summary. Free plan users get 1 AI generation to try the feature. Pro plan users have fair-use AI access throughout their subscription. The AI generates content tailored to your specific job title and industry, using proven resume writing formulas that get past applicant tracking systems.
My progress disappeared / resume didn't save. What happened?
If you were signed in, your resume is almost certainly still safe in your account — try refreshing the page and opening your dashboard. If you weren't signed in, the builder stores data in your browser session, which can be lost if you close the tab. We strongly recommend signing up for a free account so your progress is saved to the cloud and accessible from any device. If you believe your data was lost unexpectedly, contact us at support@cvfive.com with your account email and approximate creation date — we'll do our best to help.
How many CVs can I save to my account?
Free plan: You can save 1 CV to your account. This is great for keeping one polished, updated version ready to go. Pro plan: Save unlimited CVs — perfect if you're applying to multiple industries or roles that require different resume formats, or if you want to maintain separate versions in multiple languages. Upgrade to Pro from the pricing page.
Can I use CVfive in languages other than English?
Yes. CVfive supports 5 languages: English, Turkish, German, French, and Spanish. The entire interface — including builder labels, AI content generation, and resume templates — is localized for each language. To switch languages, use the language selector in the builder navigation bar. Your language preference is saved to your browser and account so it persists across sessions.
Is CVfive mobile-friendly?
CVfive works on mobile devices, though for the best experience we recommend using a desktop or laptop. The live preview, form fields, and export functionality are all accessible on mobile. Some template details may be easier to review on a larger screen. If you experience any issues on mobile, please let us know at support@cvfive.com.
How do I download my resume as a PDF?
In the builder, click the Export button in the top toolbar, then select PDF. Free plan users can download a watermarked PDF (with a small CVfive branding mark) up to 2 times per day. Pro plan users get clean, watermark-free PDF exports with unlimited downloads. The PDF is rendered at print quality — exactly what you see in the live preview.
Why is Word (.docx) export locked?
Word export is a Pro-exclusive feature. Many employers and applicant tracking systems accept or prefer .docx files, so we've made this available to Pro subscribers. To unlock Word export, upgrade to Pro Monthly ($9.99/month) or Pro Annual ($59.99/year). After upgrading, the Word export option will appear immediately in your Export menu without needing to refresh or log out.
My PDF download is not working. What should I do?
If your PDF isn't downloading, try these steps: 1) Check your browser's download settings — some browsers block automatic downloads. Look for a download notification or permissions prompt. 2) Disable any ad blocker or pop-up blocker temporarily, as they sometimes intercept file downloads. 3) Try a different browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended). 4) If you've reached your daily free export limit (2/day), wait until the next day or upgrade to Pro for unlimited exports. If none of these work, please email us at support@cvfive.com with your browser version and operating system.
What does the watermark on free PDFs look like? Can I remove it?
Free plan PDFs include a small "CVfive" watermark, typically placed subtly on the page. It's visible but doesn't interfere with the resume content. To remove it entirely, upgrade to Pro — the watermark is permanently removed for all PDF exports on a Pro plan. View Pro plans →
What file quality / resolution are CVfive PDFs?
CVfive exports pixel-perfect, print-quality PDFs. The output is optimized for both digital submission (ATS systems, email) and physical printing. Fonts are embedded, colors are accurate, and the layout is identical to what you see in the live preview. Files are typically between 200KB and 1MB depending on content.
What's included in the free plan?
The free plan gives you full access to the builder experience: all 15 templates, live preview, all 5 languages, 1 AI writing generation, 1 ATS score analysis, and up to 2 watermarked PDF downloads per day. You can build a complete, professional resume without paying anything. The free plan is designed to let you experience the full power of CVfive before deciding to upgrade.
What does Pro include that Free doesn't?
Pro unlocks: Clean PDF export (no watermark), Word (.docx) export, 15 ATS score analyses per month, fair-use AI writing access, unlimited CV saves, and access to all templates and language features. Pro is ideal for active job seekers who need to apply frequently, tailor resumes for different roles, or submit to employers who require Word format.
How do I upgrade to Pro?
You can upgrade directly from the builder — click the ⚡ Pro button in the top bar, or visit the pricing page. Choose either Pro Monthly ($9.99/month) or Pro Annual ($59.99/year — saves you 50%). You'll be redirected to our secure payment partner (Lemon Squeezy) to complete the purchase. Pro access activates immediately after payment confirmation — no waiting, no manual review.
What payment methods are accepted?
CVfive uses Lemon Squeezy as its payment processor, which supports: all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, and various local payment methods depending on your region. All transactions are encrypted and PCI-compliant. CVfive never stores your card details — all payment data is handled exclusively by Lemon Squeezy's secure infrastructure.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. We offer a 7-day no-questions-asked refund policy for all Pro purchases. If you're not satisfied for any reason within 7 days of your purchase, email us at support@cvfive.com with your order details and we'll process a full refund promptly. For refund requests made after 7 days, we evaluate these on a case-by-case basis. Please see our full refund policy for details.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time from your account dashboard — go to Account → Billing → Cancel Subscription. Your Pro access remains active until the end of your current billing period. After cancellation, your account reverts to the free plan and your saved CVs and data remain intact. You will not be charged again after cancellation. If you have trouble cancelling, email support@cvfive.com and we'll handle it immediately.
Do you offer student or team discounts?
We don't currently have a formal student discount program, but the Pro Annual plan at $59.99/year (~$5.00/month) is already significantly cheaper than most resume tools. If you're a university career center, bootcamp, or recruiter agency interested in bulk access, please reach out at support@cvfive.com — we'd be happy to discuss options.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your account and all saved CVs remain available after cancellation — you simply return to the free plan's limits. Your data is never deleted when you cancel a subscription. If you want to permanently delete your account and all associated data, contact us at support@cvfive.com and we'll process the deletion within 72 hours in accordance with our privacy policy.
How do I create an account?
You can sign up for free at cvfive.com/start. We support sign-up via Google account (one-click, no password needed) or email and password. Creating an account lets you save your CVs to the cloud, access them from any device, and keep your progress safe. There's no credit card required to create a free account.
I can't log in to my account. What should I do?
First, make sure you're using the same sign-in method you registered with (Google vs email/password). If you signed up with Google, click "Sign in with Google" and choose the correct Google account. If you signed up with email/password, use the "Forgot password" link to reset it — a reset email will be sent within a few minutes (check your spam folder). If neither works, contact us at support@cvfive.com with your account email address and we'll manually verify and recover your account.
I upgraded to Pro but my account still shows Free. What do I do?
Pro access typically activates within 1–2 minutes of completing payment. If your account still shows Free after 5 minutes, try these steps: 1) Log out and log back in to force a session refresh. 2) Hard refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows / Cmd+Shift+R on Mac). 3) Check that the payment was completed successfully in your email — you should have received a receipt from Lemon Squeezy. If you received a payment receipt but Pro still hasn't activated after 15 minutes, email support@cvfive.com with your payment receipt and we'll activate your account manually within the hour.
How is my resume data stored? Is it private?
Your resume data is stored securely in Google Firebase (Firestore), encrypted at rest and in transit. CVfive does not sell, share, or transfer your data to any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Your resume content is only accessible to you via your authenticated account. We comply with GDPR and applicable privacy regulations. Read our full Privacy Policy for complete details.
How do I delete my account and all my data?
To permanently delete your account and all associated data (CVs, profile information, billing history), send a deletion request to support@cvfive.com from the email address associated with your account. We will process the deletion within 72 hours and send you a confirmation. Please note that if you have an active Pro subscription, we recommend cancelling it first to avoid future charges before deleting your account.
What is an ATS and why does it matter?
An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is software used by 98% of Fortune 500 companies to automatically screen resumes before a human recruiter ever sees them. ATS software scans your resume for keywords, formatting, and structure. If your resume isn't optimized for ATS, it can be automatically rejected even if you're qualified. CVfive's templates are specifically tested against major ATS platforms including Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, and Taleo to ensure maximum compatibility.
What is the ATS Score feature?
CVfive's ATS Score analyzes your resume against a set of criteria used by real applicant tracking systems. It checks for: proper section structure, keyword density, quantified achievements, action verb usage, contact information completeness, and formatting compatibility. The score is shown as a percentage with specific recommendations for improvement. Free plan: 1 ATS score analysis. Pro plan: 15 analyses per month so you can track improvements as you refine your resume.
What are the most important resume writing tips for 2026?
Based on current recruiter preferences: 1) Lead every bullet point with a strong action verb (Led, Built, Increased, Reduced). 2) Quantify achievements with numbers ("Increased revenue by 34%" not "Improved revenue"). 3) Tailor your resume for each application by including keywords from the job description. 4) Keep your resume to 1–2 pages. 5) Use a clean, single-column or simple two-column layout for ATS compatibility. 6) Place your most impressive experience and skills at the top. 7) Use a professional summary (3–4 sentences) that immediately communicates your value.
Should I use the same resume for every application?
